Thoughtful Debate

Debates

Debate gives students the opportunity to discover the strength of a well-considered argument and the value of listening to one with which they may disagree. Through structured discussion, students learn to distinguish assertion from evidence, organise their thoughts, respond thoughtfully and express themselves with clarity. Just as importantly, debating teaches intellectual humility: the willingness to reconsider an idea when a stronger argument emerges. These experiences develop confidence in communication, sound judgement and an appreciation for reasoned disagreement.

Debate develops clear communication, sound judgement, confident expression and the ability to engage respectfully with different perspectives.

Reasoned Expression
